Monday, 2/4/13
Objectives :
  • pre-assess current background knowledge of U5P3 words
  • understand the purpose and format of a thesis statement.
  • apply research questions to create a thesis statement
Procedures:
  • Copy HW into agenda
  • What are today's objectives?
  • Take U5P3 pretest--correct answers
  • Introduce and model Step 5 (Thesis statement):

  1. distribute new handouts for Research folders
  2. study teacher example (topic of smoking)
  3. Apply lesson to your own research questions in room and for HW

Homework:
  • Thesis statement due tomorrow
  • WW pgs 106- 109 due Wednesday; 110-111 due Thursday; posttest Friday

Tuesday, 2/5/13Objectives:
  • evaluate to assess credible vs. non credible sources.
  • read carefully to assess relevant vs. irrelevant information
  • demonstrate ability to create 3-subtopic thesis statement based on research questions
  • understand the purpose and format of note cards and bib cards when writing a research paper

Procedures:
  • Copy HW into agenda
  • What are today's objectives?
  • Complete Step 6C using the articles/ books you gathered last week on your topic-- Read the entire passages/pages/paragraphs/articles carefully—Use a highlighter to highlight the specific information that directly relates to any of your Research Questions. Use a different colored highlighter for each subtopic (research question) so that you won’t get the information confused, especially if one source contains information for more than one research question.
Homework:
  • Read all research and highlight information that is directly related to research questions (Step 6C)
  • WW pgs 106-109 due Wed; pgs 110-111 due Thursday; posttest Friday

Wednesday, 2/6/13
Objectives:
  • create note cards and bib cards using relevant research to prove/explain all research questions
  • apply proper format of note cards and bib cards
Procedures:
  • Copy HW into agenda
  • What are today's objectives?
  • Check WW pages 106-109 for completion
  • continue yesterday's lesson, if needed.
  • Students will have class time to begin/continue applying lesson to their own research questions, thesis statement and index cards (Create note cards)---Steps 6B and 6D
Homework:
  • WW pgs 110-111 due Thursday; prepare for U5P3 posttest Friday

Thursday, 2/7/13
Objectives:

  • in computer lab: Find and print more credible articles/sources of research, as necessary, to effectively prove/explain all research questions
Homework:
  • prepare for U5P3 posttest Friday
  • minimum 40 notecards (properly formatted; following required guidelines) due Monday 2/11
  • minimum of 3 bib cards (properly formatted; following required guidelines) due Monday 2/11

Friday, 2/8/13
Objectives:
  • demonstrate mastery of U5P3 words
  • create note cards and bib cards using relevant research
Procedures:
  • Copy HW into agenda

  • Take U5P3 posttest
  • Continue working in class on creating note cards/bib cards.
